Help Grow Our Meditation Garden

There’s something quietly transformative about working with the earth—getting your hands in the soil and knowing you played a part in helping something grow. Our temple garden is becoming a space like that, and we’re looking for a few helping hands—especially college students who want to spend their weekends doing something grounding and a little different. It’s a meaningful and productive way to spend time outdoors, get some exercise, and take a break from your studies.

The temple overlooks San Jose, so you’ll also get some amazing views while you tend to the gardens.

Typical weekend tasks include spreading mulch, cutting grass, digging holes, and planting trees. There’s also regular maintenance work like transferring plants into larger pots, watering, and keeping the irrigation lines in good shape. The work is hands-on and varies week to week, so it doesn’t get repetitive.

A big part of what makes this experience special is learning. Que, who stays at the temple most weekends, has a background in plant diseases and brings a deep level of knowledge to the garden. He’s incredibly generous with his time and is always willing to share what he knows—from diagnosing plant issues to understanding how to design and maintain a healthy landscape. For those who are interested in volunteering long-term, Que can provide in-depth, hands-on training in landscaping and plant care that goes beyond the basics.

This is more than just volunteering—it’s a chance to build skills, connect with nature, and be part of a growing community effort. Whether you come once or decide to stay involved long-term, your time and energy will help shape a space that many people will enjoy.

If you’re curious, open to learning, and don’t mind getting a little dirt on your hands, we’d love to have you join us!
